The Elephant Pool is one of the most famous waterholes in the park. It’s so popular that it was once called the “Serengeti of the North.” The Elephant Pool is a great place to see elephants, as well as a variety of other animals. It’s also a great place to take photographs, as the lighting is often quite good.
Lions of Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is home to one of Africa’s last remaining populations of big cats. The park is also a key refuge for the endangered African lion. Male lions can be easily spotted as they have shaggy manes. Females, on the other hand, are much smaller and harder to see. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a lion cub. Lions are typically vocal animals and will often roar or purr when content. Keep your eyes peeled in the park—you never know when you’ll spot one of these majestic creatures.
The Famous Mt. Kilimanjaro
The park is famously known for the big elephant herds that roam the area. The park has an estimated 1,500 elephants and is the best place in Kenya to see them. In addition to elephants, Amboseli is also home to hippos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and over 400 species of birds. The star of the show, however, is Mount Kilimanjaro. At 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), it is the highest mountain in Africa and can be seen almost anywhere in the park.
Observation Hill Point at Amboseli National Park
Observation Hill, found in the South East of Amboseli National park, is the highest point in the park. It is also referred to as Normatior in the Maasai language. The Observation Hill was formed due to Mt. Kilimanjaro’s volcanic activity. As a result, Observation Hill, at the center of the park’s plains, offers a serene nature experience. A wonderful relaxation enjoying the cool breeze from the east of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
At the top of the hill, there is a designated picnic site whereby one can hold a short birthday cake sharing, have lunch, and rest. While at this point, one is assured of 360 degrees of observation of the park, including the swampy areas where Hippos and Elephants feed and mud bathing. Flamingos, Buffalos, Giraffes, wildebeest, Burch ells, Zebras, Lions, and Gazelles are common. Additionally, it can all be seen at this viewpoint, but the other wildlife species and the birdlife are visible with the use of Binoculars.
