Open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and the renowned baobab trees define Tarangire's scenery. The park is well-known for its massive elephant population, one of Africa's most significant. Visitors can also see lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, and various antelope species. The Ngorongoro Crater is the product of a collapsed volcano that generated a massive crater about two million years ago. The crater is roughly 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) across and 600 meters (1,970 feet) deep. It creates a natural cage for diverse wildlife by providing a unique ecology.
