Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi - Lake Ellis Camp 3470 m (3 hrs walking time) 

Start your journey to Lake Ellis with an early pickup from your hotel at 6 am and travel with us to Chogoria town for an energizing lunch. After recharging and packing your supplies, hop on the transfer vehicle from Chogoria gate, where the walk begins. Ahead lies a 9km trail through forest terrain that's within reach or experience for everyone who's ready for a nature adventure. Brace yourselves for some dirt and maybe wet, muddy paths that may last you up to 3 hours until Lake Ellis is within sight! The wonders of this lake serve as proof as to why such efforts are truly worth it–– stunning beauty like you have never seen awaits you on this side of Mount Kenya—dinner and overnight at Lake Ellis Camp.


Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner


Day 2: Lake Ellis - Lake Michaelson 4200 m (6 hrs walking time)

After breakfast, you will follow the trail up from Lake Ellis on its west side, meandering through glades of montane forest and moorland, finally reaching a ridge that joins with the main Chogoria path. Our crews work diligently so that lunch can be served at the campsite – ensuring everything is ready for you before you arrive. Your efforts will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Vivienne Falls and Gorges Valley heading down to the picturesque Camp nestled beside Lake Michaelson! This stunning journey takes your breath away and allows you to appreciate all of nature's brilliance first-hand—dinner and overnight at Lake Michaelson Camp.

Day 3: Lake Michaelson - Simba Tarn 4600m (3 hrs walking time)

Rise and shine! It's time to prepare for your early morning breakfast, which will be served at 7:30 am to accommodate today's shorter hike. Climb away from the wonderful Lake Michaelson. You'll ascend into an extraordinary alpine zone of rock and ice, heading towards the prominent peaks and leaving behind the splendid lobelias and groundsels. A final steep scree slope will take us all up to Simba Tarn, where we will camp for the night. Depending on how Mother Nature cooperates, it may be particularly chilly, so don't forget to pack an extra layer just in case to keep you cozy near the peak—dinner and overnight at Simba Tarn Camp.

Day 4: Simba Tarn via Point Lenana 4895m to Old Moses 3300m (9 hrs walking time)

Start at 5:00 am and relax with a morning drink of your choice, a cup of tea or coffee, before beginning the 2-hour climb to Point Lenana, our summit peak of 4,985m. Glimpse the twinkled peaks of Nelion and Batian in the blissful morns sunlight. On those especially lucky days, you might be able to witness an exquisite panoramic view of its sister mountain. Mt. Kilimanjaro, which transcends a whopping 400 kilometers away! Capture those fond memories and raise their inner intrepidity with a celebratory snap at this extraordinary summit for about 30 minutes to 45 minutes! After that, proceed downhill to Shipton Camp for a hearty breakfast and proceed further down to conclude the day's trek with dinner at Old Moses Camp. Dinner and Overnight at Old Moses Camp.

Day 5: Old Moses via Sirimon Gate to Nairobi (2 hrs walking time)

After a hearty breakfast, it's time to descend through the rainforest. The 9km stretch takes you from the mountainside to Sirimon Park Gate, 2600 meters above sea level. Once you reach this spot, you will find our reliable transport to take you back to Nairobi, ensuring your comfort and safety. Make sure you get one last look at Mt. Kenya as you complete your journey in the landscapes with the sounds of nature in your surroundings. An experience sure to stay with you for all eternity. Drop off at Nairobi approximately by 1:00 pm.
