This 6 day Tarangire Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari spends a day in Tarangire, 3 nights in the Serengeti and a full day in the Ngorongoro Crater, travelling by 4WD Land Cruiser on Tanzania’s northern circuit.
Overview
This 6 day Tarangire Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari is a 5-night road safari on Tanzania’s northern circuit. You spend a day in Tarangire National Park, 3 nights at Moyo Tented Camp in the Serengeti and a night at Rhino Lodge before a full Ngorongoro Crater game drive. The page gives no fixed season, so it runs all year. From USD 2,649 per adult, it suits first-time visitors to Tanzania.
It suits couples, families and small groups who want the three best-known northern parks in under a week, travelling in a modified 4WD Land Cruiser with a photographic roof and a professional English-speaking guide, with meals as per the itinerary.
Why choose a 6 day Tarangire Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari?
Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater are the core of the northern circuit, and this trip gives each one a proper game drive. Tarangire is known for big elephant herds along the Tarangire River and its baobab trees. The Serengeti gets two full days and two more half days, which is the most time of any park on the trip.
The Ngorongoro Crater ends the safari. It is a collapsed volcanic caldera with walls about 2,000 ft high, and one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be seen. With some luck, the Big Five can be seen in a single crater game drive.
- First-time visitors: Tarangire, the Serengeti and the crater in 6 days.
- Wildlife lovers: 3 nights in one Serengeti camp, so less packing and more driving time.
- Rhino seekers: a full crater tour with a picnic lunch on the crater floor.
What to expect on the 6 day Tarangire Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari
Day 1 is a full day of game drives in Tarangire National Park, about 120 km southwest of Arusha, with a picnic lunch, looking for elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras and wildebeest. In the evening you drive to Omega View Hotel for dinner and the night.
Day 2 crosses the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, with an optional stop at Olduvai Gorge and a picnic lunch on a kopje, then a game drive to Moyo Tented Camp. Days 3 and 4 are full days in the Serengeti, starting early to catch predators returning from the night’s hunt, with picnic lunches and both nights at Moyo Tented Camp.
Day 5 starts with a morning game drive in the central Serengeti, then a game drive en route to Rhino Lodge inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Day 6 is a crater tour with a picnic lunch on the crater floor, then a late afternoon drive back to Arusha for the flight to Zanzibar.
When is the best time for a Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari?
The Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari works all year, because the crater and the central Serengeti hold resident wildlife in every month. Tarangire is usually at its best in the dry months, when elephants gather along the river. The wildebeest herds move around the Serengeti through the year, so tell us your dates and we plan the game drives around them. Read our best time to visit Tanzania guide for month-by-month advice.
