Our gorilla trekking tours take you into the forests of Rwanda and Uganda for an hour face to face with a mountain gorilla family. Divulge Adventures arranges your gorilla permits, lodges and transfers, with trips from a single day in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park to longer safaris through Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and options from budget guesthouses to ultra-luxury lodges.
About two to three hours’ drive from Kigali, so you can trek on a short trip. Rwanda is known for well-organised trekking and high-end lodges. See our Rwanda gorilla trekking guide.
Home to around half of the world’s mountain gorillas, in a UNESCO-listed rainforest. Uganda’s permits are generally less expensive, and Bwindi pairs well with chimpanzee trekking and savannah parks. See our Uganda safari guide.
Permits are limited each day and are a major part of the trip cost, so book several months ahead, especially for June to September. Trekkers must usually be at least 15 years old. We secure your permit as part of your booking.
Trekking runs all year. The dry seasons, June to September and December to February, offer easier, less muddy trails. The rainy months are quieter and greener, and permits are sometimes easier to secure.
Both offer unforgettable encounters. Rwanda suits shorter trips with quick access from Kigali, while Uganda offers lower permit prices and easy combinations with chimpanzees and savannah wildlife.
From under an hour to several hours, depending on where the gorilla family is. Once you find them, you spend about one hour with the group.
Reasonable fitness helps, as trails can be steep and muddy. Rangers match groups to fitness levels, and porters can carry your bag.
Waterproof hiking boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, a rain jacket, gardening gloves and a small daypack with water and snacks.
