Family & Multi-Generational Safaris

Family safaris for every generation, from grandparents to little explorers. Private, tailor-made trips across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Namibia and Botswana.

Family Safaris for Every Generation

Family safaris bring people together like nothing else. Watching a herd of elephants cross the plains, hearing lions call at night or spotting a leopard in a tree becomes a shared story you’ll tell for years. Whether you’re travelling with young children, teenagers, grandparents or the whole extended family, we plan family safaris that work for every age.

Every one of our family safaris is private. You have your own vehicle and guide, so you set the pace: early starts or lazy mornings, long game drives or short ones with time at the pool. We choose family-friendly lodges, plan sensible travel times and take care of every detail, so the grown-ups can relax too.

Safaris with Young Children

A safari with little ones is all about the right pace and the right lodges. We keep drives shorter, plan breaks between game viewing and choose camps with family rooms, swimming pools and space to play. Your private guide can stop whenever someone needs a snack, a rest or a closer look at a dung beetle.

Some lodges set minimum ages for certain activities, such as walking safaris, so we match your itinerary to your children’s ages from the start.

Family Rooms

Family rooms or interconnecting tents keep everyone close at night.

Shorter Drives

Game drives timed around naps, meals and attention spans.

Downtime Built In

Lodges with pools and gardens for relaxed afternoons.

Young Explorer Fun

Guides who make tracks, birds and bugs exciting for kids.

Safaris with Teens

Teenagers love the adventure side of Africa. Think walking safaris with an armed ranger, hot-air balloon flights over the Masai Mara or Serengeti, night drives in private conservancies and, for those aged 15 and over, gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda (see the Uganda Wildlife Authority for permit rules).

A safari is also the perfect digital detox, with real wildlife moments that beat any screen. Keen photographers can learn from guides who know exactly where the light and the animals will be.

Walking Safaris

Track wildlife on foot with an expert ranger.

Wildlife Photography

Tips from guides on getting the perfect shot.

Gorilla Trekking

An unforgettable encounter for travellers aged 15 and over.

Balloon Safaris

Sunrise flights over the plains, followed by a bush breakfast.

Grandparents & Multi-Generational Safaris

Multi-generational family safaris are one of the most rewarding ways to experience Africa. We plan comfortable itineraries with fewer one-night stops, lodges with easy access and, where it helps, short scheduled flights between parks to cut out long road journeys.

Family members can fly in from different countries and on different days, and each household can pay its own share. With a private vehicle, everyone travels together while the pace suits the whole group.

Comfort First

Well-chosen lodges with easy access and good service.

Fly Between Parks

Short flights to avoid long drives where it helps.

Arrive Separately

Flights from different countries and on different days.

Pay Separately

Each household can pay its own share directly.

Good to Know for Family Safaris

  • Private vehicle and guide: your family sets the pace, never strangers.
  • Child rates: many lodges offer reduced rates for children sharing with parents.
  • Age limits: some activities, such as walking safaris and gorilla trekking, have minimum ages. We plan around them.
  • Group offer: for every 6 paying travellers, the 7th place is free, with priority to the organiser.

Best Destinations for Family Safaris

Every country we cover offers something special for families. These are the favourites.

Kenya

The Masai Mara and Amboseli offer superb game viewing, with short flights or drives from Nairobi.

Tanzania

The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, easily combined with a Zanzibar beach break.

Uganda & Rwanda

Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking for families with older teens.

Bush & Beach

End with relaxed days on Diani or Zanzibar's white sandy beaches.
