Gorilla permits are limited each day and are one of the biggest costs of a Uganda safari, so we recommend booking several months in advance, especially for the dry season. Trekkers must usually be at least 15 years old. We secure your permits as part of your booking.
Three to four days is enough for a gorilla trek. Seven to ten days lets you combine gorillas, chimpanzees and a savannah park such as Queen Elizabeth.
Treks can take from one to several hours depending on where the gorilla family is. Once you find them, you spend about one hour with the group.
Both offer unforgettable encounters. Uganda’s permits are generally less expensive and pair well with chimpanzee trekking and savannah parks, while Rwanda offers shorter transfers from Kigali.
Most visitors need a visa, which can usually be applied for online. The East Africa Tourist Visa can cover Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda on one trip. Check current rules for your nationality before travelling.
Proof of yellow fever vaccination is generally required for entry. Speak to a travel clinic about malaria protection and other recommended vaccines.
