What to expect on your luxury Rwanda safari

After a warm welcome in Kigali, you drive to Akagera’s north gate on day two, where Magashi’s guides meet you. Settle into your tent overlooking the lake and choose your activities, from morning and evening game drives to boat cruises.

Day three is a full day at Magashi, tracking lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and the area’s many hippos with expert guides. On day four you travel to Bisate Lodge, about five hours by road or quicker by optional helicopter.

Day five is your gorilla trek, with one magical hour beside a habituated family. On day six you trek golden monkeys before returning to Kigali for your evening flight.

How fit do you need to be?

Activities at Magashi need no special fitness. Gorilla treks last one to six hours, and porters are available to carry your bag and help on steep ground.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will receive a warm welcome from the Divulge Adventures team. After exchanging money if needed, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Marriott Hotel

Day 02 :

Kigali - Akagera National Park (Magashi Camp)

After an early breakfast, drive to Akagera National Park, approximately 3 hours, where the camp's guides will meet you at the north gate for the short drive to camp. Settle into your tent overlooking the lake, then choose from the camp's activities, including morning and evening game drives, boat cruises on Lake Rwanyakazinga and catch-and-release fishing. Dinner and overnight at Magashi Camp

Day 03 :

Akagera Safari Activities

Spend a full day enjoying Magashi's activities with expert guides: track animal signs, learn to identify birds by their calls and search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and the area's abundant hippos. Relax between activities with lake views from your private deck. Dinner and overnight at Magashi Camp

Day 04 :

Akagera - Volcanoes National Park (Bisate Lodge)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Volcanoes National Park, approximately 5 hours, with a lunch stop in Kigali. Arrive at your lodge and settle into your villa with views of the volcanoes. In the afternoon, you may visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Dinner and overnight at Bisate Lodge

Day 05 :

Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Gorilla Guardians Village

After an early breakfast, report to the Kinigi park headquarters for the 7:00 AM briefing, with your trek starting at about 8:00 AM. Hikes can last from 30 minutes to over 4 hours before you spend one magical hour with the gorillas. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village for traditional dances and stories. Dinner and overnight at Bisate Lodge

Day 06 :

Golden Monkey Trekking - Kigali (Departure)

After breakfast, set out on a golden monkey trek, spending one hour with these lively monkeys. Return to the lodge for lunch and check out, then drive back to Kigali, approximately 2.5 hours, with an optional shopping stop before your evening flight from Kigali International Airport.
