This Uganda birding expedition travels anticlockwise from Lake Victoria to the Albertine Rift, Semliki, Budongo and the Nile at Murchison Falls.
This Uganda birding expedition is our longest Ugandan route. In 18 days it visits nearly every major birding site in the country, ending with a cruise on the Nile at Murchison Falls.
The pace allows two nights at most stops, so you have time to search properly for difficult forest birds.
Why choose this Uganda birding expedition?
- Entebbe and Mabamba: turacos, then the shoebill by boat.
- Lake Mburo: African finfoot and white-backed night heron.
- Buhoma and Ruhija: Albertine Rift endemics in two parts of Bwindi.
- Queen Elizabeth: Kasenyi plains and the Kazinga Channel.
- Semliki, Budongo and Murchison: Congo Basin birds, the Royal Mile and the Nile.
Where you stay
Lodges include an Entebbe hotel, a hotel in Mbarara, Buhoma Tented Camp, a lodge at Ruhija, Mweya Safari Lodge, Semliki Safari Lodge, Mountains of the Moon Hotel, Masindi Hotel and Paraa Safari Lodge, or similar.
Best time for a Uganda birding expedition
Birding is good all year. The drier months are easiest for forest walking, while the wet months bring breeding activity and fewer visitors.
Read our Uganda national parks guide and browse all birding safaris. Gorilla trekking can be added in Bwindi; see our Bwindi gorilla guide. Park permits come from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
How much does the Uganda birding expedition cost?
Price on request. The cost depends on your travel dates, group size, the season and the lodges you choose, so we prepare every quote personally rather than showing one fixed price.
