This 7 day Batian North Face climb is the shortest way to stand on Mount Kenya’s highest summit, approaching by the Sirimon route and climbing the classic North Face.
This 7 day Batian North Face climb takes experienced climbers from Nairobi to Batian (5,199 m), the highest point in Kenya, and back in a week. You walk up the scenic Sirimon route, base yourself at Kami Hut below the North Face, climb the standard North Face route over two days with a bivouac, and walk out on the Chogoria side.
It is aimed at fit, competent rock climbers comfortable at UIAA grade IV to IV+ who already have some altitude experience, because the schedule is shorter than our 10-day version.
Why choose the 7 day Batian North Face climb?
The Sirimon route is the gentlest and most scenic way into the northern side of the peaks, through forest, moorland and Mackinder’s Valley. It leads naturally to Kami Hut, the traditional base for the North Face.
If you have more time, our 10-day Kamweti version adds a longer walk-in and a Point Lenana acclimatisation summit. Choose the 7-day trip if you are short on time and already acclimatised, for example after another high trek.
What to expect on the 7 day Batian North Face climb
Day 1 is a drive to Nanyuki and a short walk to Old Moses Camp (about 3,300 m). Day 2 crosses the moorland and Mackinder’s Valley to Shipton’s Camp (about 4,200 m), and day 3 is a short hop to Kami Hut. Day 4 is the main climbing day to a bivouac near Firmin Tower, and on day 5 you reach Batian around midday, abseil down and return to Shipton’s.
Days 6 and 7 take you over Simba Col and down to Chogoria, then back to Nairobi by mid-afternoon.
When is the best season?
Late June to early October is the classic North Face season, when the face is sunny and dry. Outside that window, ask us about the Nelion route on the south-east face.
