This 10 day Kilimanjaro Lemosho route gives you the slowest, most scenic ascent of Kilimanjaro, with two nights on the Shira Plateau before the summit.
This 10 day Kilimanjaro Lemosho route is the route we recommend for the best chance of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The 10-day trip starts and ends in Moshi. Eight days on the mountain mean nights at Mti Mkubwa, Shira 1 and Shira 2 before joining the southern circuit at Lava Tower, Barranco and Karanga, with acclimatisation walks most afternoons.
It suits first-time climbers, older trekkers and anyone who wants to enjoy the mountain at an unhurried pace.
Why choose the 10 day Kilimanjaro Lemosho route?
Time is the most important factor in reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro. The 10 day Lemosho route gains height slowly and uses ‘climb high, sleep low’ walks on almost every day, so summit success rates are among the highest of any itinerary. It is also one of the most beautiful and least crowded routes.
What to expect on the 10 day Kilimanjaro Lemosho route
Day 2 walks through rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (about 2,780 m), day 3 climbs to Shira 1 (about 3,505 m), and day 4 crosses the plateau to Shira 2 (about 3,900 m). Day 5 goes over Lava Tower to Barranco, day 6 to Karanga with an afternoon walk, and day 7 to Barafu. Summit night reaches Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then you descend to Millennium Camp and walk out to Mweka Gate on day 9.
When is the best time to climb?
January to mid-March and June to October are the driest months. Read our month-by-month guide to climbing Kilimanjaro and compare all routes in our Kilimanjaro routes guide.
